Week 9

We hope that everyone had  a super long weekend. The teachers had a great day on Friday learning more about teaching maths:-) This week Mrs Flannery is away on Wednesday and Mrs Eastwood is teaching Room 1.
We have made a few changes to our reading programme and now some children will take a browsing box book home every second or third day. This is so we can have more than one teaching session on a book. Children will only bring these home when they are comfortable with the text. Any questions about this please come and see us.
Please keep learning and ticking those sight words!!! 5 ticks and we need to see the words.

Have a happy and safe week

Last minute camp notice - 11 March

Hope everyone's getting packed for camp!

Just a couple of alterations to our gear list:
Pillows are provided, so you only need a pillow case.

Also a named torch, if you have one at home, would be helpful for taking children to the toilet at night.

Some rain is forecast on Friday, so please remember rain jackets.

Finally, remember to bring along materials to camp such as plastic bottles, containers, straws, lids and whatever else you can think of for boat making.

Thanks

Sue and Julie

School Triathlon

The school triathlon has come round very quickly. Due to us being double booked at the swimming pool we have had to change our Triathlon date from what was stated in the term planner at the beginning of the year to Monday 16th March (pm). We will be starting the first race at approx. 12.40pm. Please check your child/ren’s bikes and that their helmets fit properly over the next few days.

Every child will be competing in the triathlon in the following age groups and in this order;
Yr 5-8 Competitive (Yr 5&6, Yr 7&8)
Yr 1&2
Yr 3&4
Yr 5-8 Non-Competitive

If you are able to help with course marshalling please return the form below, before Friday 13th.  It is important that we have plenty of parents around the course to ensure all children are safe at all times and of course to support the children. The more helpers we have the better.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Please be sure to come to school in your school sports uniform and track suit - Years 5 - 8, sports uniforms, green trackpants/warm clothe - Rooms 1 – 4.
School sunhats are compulsory, so be sure to have yours at school.
We will all be leaving school at 12.10pm.  Years 5 – 8 will bike their bikes to the pool with Mr Yeoman and Mrs Eastwood. Rooms 1 – 4 will travel by bus, their bikes will need to be dropped directly to the pool. Lunch will be at 11:30.
There will be an event briefing at approximately 12:30 with the first race starting at approx. 12.40pm.

There will be marshals at each of the Transitions, Mrs Beilby at the run/bike and Mrs Flannery inside the pool.  We ask that parents please stay out of the transition areas, there will be help available to your children if they need it, but Room 3 have demonstrated that they can complete these transitions with no assistance, so we’re sure that older competitors can as well.  It would be helpful though to have parents remove bikes as soon as possible from the area. Children only may access the pool through the rear doors.  This is the understanding that we have within our pool hire agreement. All parents must use the usual pool entrance. Thanks for helping us out with this – especially when it is so exciting!!

Children are to be picked up from the pool after the event at approx. 2.30-2.45 please. Bus children will be brought back to school by staff.

Week 7 - Camp Week

Thank you to everyone for getting their camp notices back in on time.  Remember to bring materials suitable for boat making to camp with you.  Children only need a sleeping bag this time - no bed roll. Also a reminder that camp money needs to be paid to the office - $30 for each child and $15 for parent helpers that are staying overnight.

Please could Room 2 bring clear containers with lids to school tomorrow for catching bugs and insects with Mr Hogue.  Something like a new world salad container would be ideal.

The school triathlon will be next Monday 16 March at 12.00pm at the pool.  The children will be bussing to the pool but bikes need to be dropped at the pool before then.  Children wear their sports uniform to school and they need their togs and a drink bottle.  More details will be in the newsletter next week.

Have a great week

Julie and Sue

CAMP

Camp notice, timetable and permission slip as well as police vetting slips have all gone home today.
Please have back at school tomorrow. Police vetting forms for parents wanting to go must be back by Thursday at the latest.
As this year we have limited spaces for adults because of the beds available, make sure you get your slips in early so we can advise parents on Friday who will be attending camp. Some parents may not be able to stay so it is very important that you state if you have a reason why you need to stay.
Thanks heaps
Julie, Sue and Chris

Week 6 Term1

It is amazing that we are already up to week 6!!!
This week we welcome Eden and Madison and their families to Room 1.
We have reading everyday for homework and on Fridays there is a poem to read.
Please make sure those sight words are being ticked off and come back to school when your child has 5 ticks. Then we will sign the word off. Once all words are signed off children will move to the next level.
We wish all our swimmers who are heading to the CO swimming sports in Cromwell the best of luck.
This Friday is international prayer day.
Please can you make sure that all clothing is named as we are having a few mix ups. This week pack the children togs just in case in is warm in the afternoons.
We also have the school camp fast approaching and information will go home this week. This will be in hard copy and also go on the blog.
The triathlon is also this term so get those bikes out and start biking and running. Every junior takes part and completes the whole event by themselves. It involves a short  bike and run and one length of the little pool.
Have a happy and safe week and please remember to click on the link on the blog so if we add information during the week you are notified!!!
