Week 9, Term 2

Hi everyone,

We hope you all enjoyed family time together in the weekend.

We have ice skating this week on Tuesday and Thursday, leaving school by bus at 10.40, with lessons starting at 11.00am.  Thank you to those parents that helped us last Tuesday.

The rest of the week is relatively quiet for a change.

Next week is busier. We have:

  • St Johns from 9.00-10.30am on Monday morning
  • Presenting Eisteddfod poems to the class on Monday afternoon
  • Ice-skating at 11.00am on Tuesday morning
  • Eisteddfod assembly at 1.30pm on Thursday afternoon in the hall
  • Mufti Day and Cultural assembly at 1.30pm on Friday
This is the last week to help your child prepare a poem to present to the class next Monday. (Room 1 may choose a nursery rhyme). The children all have poems in their poetry book that they could choose a poem from, or select a poem of their choice.  They can enhance this with actions if they wish.  We will be choosing two or three children to recite their poem at the Eisteddfod assembly. Criteria will be: knowing your poem off by heart, using a clear voice, looking at the audience and using expression.

Also, the Cultural Assembly next Friday is a chance for children from other countries and cultures to share an aspect of their culture with others.  It might be a costume, song or dance.  If your child would like to share something, please let us know.

Have a great week,

Sue, Bridget and Kate

Wig Day Wednesday

Just a reminder that tomorrow is Wig Day Wednesday.  We will be showing our support for Child Cancer Foundation by wearing mufti and a wig and giving a gold coin donation.

If you don't have a wig you can make one using a template from the Wig Wednesday website, or make a wig or headpiece of your own.  Or create wacky hair using ribbons, clips, colouring or anything you can think of.

Child Cancer Foundation provides one-to-one, personalised support to Kiwi children diagnosed with cancer and their family. It aims to ensure that children and their families are supported, informed and remain connected at every stage of their cancer journey.

Child Cancer Foundation receives no direct funding from the government, so relies on the generosity of New Zealanders to support its cause.  This is one of the charities our Special Character leaders have chosen to support this year because it is a charity close to our heart as cancer has affected one of our students.

Term 2, Week 8

Hi everyone,

Hope you all had a lovely weekend.

What's Coming Up?
Hopefully, weather permitting, ice skating will be underway this Tuesday 20th.  Room 1, 2 and 7's lesson is from 11.00 -12.00pm.  The bus leaves school at 10.40am and returns to school at 12.10.  The cost of ice-skating for each child is $45,  which includes 5 sessions and the bus. This can be paid to the office please.  A reminder that children need to wear warm clothing, with gloves being a safety requirement for being on the ice, along with helmets which are a compulsory item. (Bike helmets are ideal for skating). Children need to wear some sort of waterproof pants.  Also the people at the rink ask that children do not wear two pairs of socks as it can affect the skate size. It would be great if any parents that are free would meet us at the rink to help with putting skates on and off.  Could you please write your child's shoe size on their hand on Tuesday morning before school as this makes it much easier to get the correct size skates quickly.

Wednesday Mass is at 9.00am and will be led by Room 5.

It is Room 1 and 2's turn to lead assembly this Friday 23rd, so come along and join us if you are able.

The Poetry Eisteddfod will be held in the last week of term.  Children need to prepare a short poem to recite to the class.

Have a great week,

Sue, Kate and Bridget
