Week 8, Term 1

Hello everyone Hope you all had a lovely Anniversary weekend. Just making sure you all know that Easter Tuesday is a holiday too. This applies to all schools throughout New Zealand. The letter for the week this week is Aa. This Thursday 24 March, there is an Easter Liturgy in the church at from 12.00-12.45. All children are involved in the retelling of the Easter Story and you are very welcome to come along and join in. In week 10, children need to present a short prayer to the class as part of our Eisteddfod. If you require a prayer for your child, please ask Mrs Wright or Mrs Flannery. Have a happy and safe Easter, Julie, Sue and Neroli

St Patrick's Day and containers for discovery time

Hi everyone

Just a reminder that tomorrow March 17th is St Patrick's Day and the children are encouraged to wear green  and bring a gold coin donation as we are raising money for Cambodia.  Also there is a baking stall where pieces of baking are being sold for $1.00.

If you have any spare flat plastic containers e.g. those that Thai or Chinese takeaways are sold in, could you please send these to school by Friday for seed planting at Discovery time.  Also we are still on the hunt for pantyhose but these seem hard to come by these days!

Thanks

Sue, Julie and Neroli

Urgently required - another parent from Room 1 to join the PTA

14 March

The St Gerard's PTA is meeting this Wednesday March 16th at 7.30pm.  We have one representative from Room 1,  but would like someone else to step forward.  It is a great way to get to know other parents in the school, and we need some parents to represent the younger children.  It is not essential to attend every meeting, and you are able to choose the activities you would like to be involved in.

The PTA does so many things for our school: organising pastoral care to families in need,  fundraising including our school fair every second year, and running the uniform shop, are just three of the many activities they are involved in.

The PTA is so important to the school and they have helped to fund so many things, including partially funding an extra teacher so that we can have smaller class sizes, and providing reading books for the junior school in 2016.

Please give this your consideration, and if you think you would like to become involved in the PTA,
then let Sue Wright know before Wednesday evening.

Thanks

Sue

Room 1 Self Portraits

We worked really hard using paint and pastels to create our self portraits.  We looked in the mirror at our faces to help us.

Week 6

We hope that everyone had a super weekend in the heat.
This week all homework books should have made their way home. Any questions about this please pop in and ask.
Our letter of the week this week is Vv.
Library books need to be back on Fridays.
Assembly this week 2.10pm in the school hall.
Next Monday 14 March is the school triathlon.
As part of the Eisteddfod, children need to get a short prayer ready to present to the class on week 10.

Please remember to talk to your child about the news topic for the week so they are prepared and ready to roll. (Room 2).

Our Inquiry topic this term is "Where Does Food really Come From?" and as part of this we will be following through the cycle of plants from seeds, seedling, plants, to the plate, to compost and around again.  This Friday at Discovery Time we hope to make wheat men and we need old pantyhose for this. If you have any at home or can source some from grandmas, could you please send these to school before Friday.

This week we will be popping more of children's work on the blog. So please come and check back.

Remember to click on the link box and put in your email so you get notification when a new blog goes up.

Have a great week

Julie, Sue and Neroli
