Mufti Day Tomorrow

Just a last minute note that tomorrow is a mufti day with a gold coin donation for Ben Whitaker's Food for Thought, helping under-privileged children in Argentina.

Also if you are able, could you please provide a food donation for the Food Bank at tomorrow evening's farewell school Mass.

Children will be bringing books and Artworks home tomorrow so could they please bring a couple of supermarket bags to take these home in.

Just a reminder that there are still some children who haven't paid $3.00 for the pool last Friday. Please pay this to Mrs Wright.

Thanks

Week 10, Term 4

Hi all,
Only three days left of school for 2016.

Tomorrow is our family lunch at 12.00 before the prizegiving at 1.00.  Rooms 1, 2 and 7 are performing two introductory kapahaka songs and presenting a song as an item. Children who are angels in this song need to bring fairy wings to school if they have them and could shepherds please bring a tea-towel or towel for their head gear.  Also if anyone has a gold plastic crown or spare fairy wings at home please send these along to school.  Don't stress about these items, it is quite low-key and we will just make do with what we have.

Also Tuesday night is the school Mass and farewell to our Year 8 pupils.  It starts at 6.00pm and all students are expected to attend in their school uniform.  Some Year 1 children will be presented with Bibles.  The Mass and farewell should be finished by 7.30.

Wednesday is just a general tidy-up day.  If there are any tired children that you would like to keep at home this day, that's fine as long as you have sent a note along previously letting us know. (All books and Art work will be sent home on the Tuesday.)

Finally, a big thank you to those parents who helped us with our very successful outdoor education week last week and thank you to all of you for your continuing support this year.

Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year and a happy and safe holiday.

Thanks

Sue, Julie, and Rosalie

Week 9, Term 4

Hi everyone

Just a reminder that this week is our Outdoor Education week.
Week 9 - Outdoor Education Week

Monday 5 December (Sport's uniform to be worn)
We are walking along the river track and up to the clock, leaving school at 11.40am.  We will have lunch at the old pool site at approximately 12.45.  After lunch we will go to the playground at Pioneer Park and be back at school by 2.50.  We are short of parents to accompany us, so please let us know if you are available.  Children will need walking shoes, school sunhat, sunscreen, a big lunch and a drink.

Tuesday 6 December
On Tuesday morning, we are listening to Eisteddfod speeches.   For this, the children need to prepare a short talk for the class about something they are interested in eg. a favourite pet, a sport, a favourite holiday place etc.

In the afternoon, we are having a water afternoon, weather permitting.  Please brings togs and a towel, plus water guns. If anyone has a waterslide or paddling pool they would be able to lend, this would be great and please let your classroom teacher know.

Wednesday 7 December
This is our trip to the wharenui at Dunstan High School.  We will be walking to Dunstan at 11.30am, and having the powhiri at 12.00.  Some Room 7 boys will be sharing their Mihi. After this, we will have a shared lunch with some Dunstan students, and rotate around some activities. It would be helpful to have some parents with us on this trip.
Everyone needs to provide a small plate of finger food for lunch. (The food is our koha). Please bring this to school on Wednesday morning.
Also remember a jacket if wet.

Thursday 8 December
Thursday afternoon is the school Eisteddfod.

Friday 9 December (Sport's uniform to be worn)
Bike day and trip to the pool.  Please bring bikes to school on Friday morning. We will be leaving school at 10.30 and biking along the rail trail to the bike park. (If your child has trainer wheels or is not confident on a bike, please drop their bike at the bike park at 11am and they will walk along the rail trail.  Could you also let the classroom teacher know that this is happening). We will then ride bikes at the bike park and go over to the playground for lunch. From 1.00 - 2.00, we will be swimming at the pool, and children are to be picked up from the playground opposite the Stadium Tavern from 2.30 (2.55 at the latest). We will also need parent help for this trip and there will be a cost of $3.00.

If you are able to help with any of the above activities, please email or see your class teacher.

Also on Friday, we are taking orders for the picnic lunch from 12-1pm before the prizegiving on Monday 12 December. If you wish to buy lunch, you can buy it as Year 1 and 2 are raising funds for the new play based learning area that we want created in front of Room 1.

Week 7, Term 4

Hi everyone,

Well we had a very successful dairy farm visit last Wednesday and the weather held out for us - we were even able to eat lunch in the sunshine!  A big thank you to those parents who came along as helpers and a special thank you to Emma and Hamish for being such wonderful hosts.  The children all learnt so much and had heaps of questions.

The last two days of swimming for our group of 5 year olds are on Tuesday and Thursday. On Thursday we need to leave earlier at 11.45 as our session is 12.00.  It has been great to see the children's progress - we had some children who were scared to put their head under and they are now floating!  Also thank you so much to the parents who have been helping with transport and dressing children.

This week the Life Education Bus is at school on Thursday and Friday and all classes will have two sessions in the bus.  We are learning about where our food comes from and healthy eating.

Next week, Week 8, we will be having a junior school Christmas Art activity rotation after play each day. This will involve Room's 1, 2, 3 and 7.

Week 9 is our Outdoor Education week and we have some exciting activities planned.  There will be more details coming next week.

Also the Speech Eisteddfods are in Week 9,  For this, the children need to prepare a short talk for the class about something they are interested in eg. a favourite pet, a sport, a favourite holiday place etc.

Have a great week,

Week 5, Term 4

Hi everyone,
Hope you all had a lovely weekend.

This Tuesday and Thursday afternoon there is swimming again for the same group of 5 year olds.  Thanks so much to those parents that have been helping with transport - it is a big cost saver!

The Ronald McDonald roadshow on road safety is on Thursday at 12 o’clock in the hall for Rooms 1,2,3 and 7.

The letter of the week is Mm. Please bring along things starting with Mm for our table.

Also, just a reminder that the children bring home a poem in their poetry books on Fridays. This is their weekend reading so could you please get your child to read the poem to you or read it with them and then sign it.

The previous post showed the art the Room 1 and 2 children have done for the Fundraiser Calendars. An order form came home with each child last week or you could ask at the office if you don’t have one. You are able to order calendars, cards or diaries which would be excellent for Christmas.

Also, there is a farm trip to the Stratford's farm next week as part of our Inquiry topic, "Where does our food come from?" There will be more details posted about this trip during the week.

Have a great week,

Julie, Sue and Rosalie

All Room 1 children as well as George, Lilli and Jack Melvin, will be having swimming lessons on Tuesdays  and Thursdays for the next 5 weeks.  They will be going to the pool and back by mini-van. Week 9, term 3

Hi everyone,

Can't believe that it's the last week of term already!

We have a busy week ahead of us, with musical practices most mornings from 10.30-12.45.  If you have an animal onesie at home that you haven't sent along yet, could you please send it along tomorrow.  We are also looking for pairs of white angel wings.

On Monday and Wednesday afternoons at 2.10, we have athletic's practice, so sports' uniforms may be worn on these days.  Children are now able to choose between wearing winter and summer uniform depending on the weather, but the summer uniform is compulsory after the holidays.  The children are  looking forward to being able to bring their scooters to school next term.

Tuesday afternoon is the last day of the Grandparent reading programme for Room 1 and we are making and serving afternoon tea to the grandmas.  We are very thankful to these ladies for giving up their time each Tuesday to read and play games with the children. It is one of the highlights of the week and the children are very sad that it is finishing for the year.

On Monday and Tuesday, children will be singing their Eisteddfod song to the class and six Year 1-2 children will be chosen to perform at the school Assembly at 1.30pm this Thursday 22 September.

Important Dates Coming Up:
School Musical - Noah: Matinee 1pm and evening performance 6.30pm Wednesday 19 October, evening performance 6.30pm Thursday 20 October.
School Athletics Day: Wednesday 26 October

Have a great week,

Sue, Julie and Rosalie

Week 8, Term 3

Hi everyone,

Hope you all had a lovely weekend and were able to make the most of this beautiful weather!

Just a reminder about school photos tomorrow morning 12th September.  All children to be wearing their correct winter uniform.

Also, the children need to have a song ready to sing to the class by next Monday 19th September.  Some suggestions are: a song we sing in class,  a song from the musical, or a nursery rhyme.  Some children will be chosen to sing their song at the school Eisteddfod assembly on Thursday afternoon 22 September.

This Sunday, some of our Year 4 children will be receiving the sacrament of Confirmation at the 9.00am Mass.  It would be lovely if your family could come along to support these children.

Have a great week,

Sue, Julie and Rosalie.

Week 7, Term 2

Hi everyone,

Please remember our Father's Day lunch tomorrow at 12.15pm and please send along $6.00 to cover the costs, or $3.00 if only your child is attending.

Also, a reminder to keep sending along animal onesies for the production, so we know how many we have and how many we will have to source.

Tomorrow afternoon, Room 1 and 2 are in the school garden with Sue Brydges.  If your child has their own gardening gloves, could they please bring them to school tomorrow. They could also wear their sports uniform if you would prefer them to be gardening in their trackpants.

On Wednesday afternoon, the teachers will be attending a stop workmeeting for NZEI. A letter was sent home last week about this, with a form to be returned to school. Please let the office know whether your child will be attending school on Wednesday afternoon, as Mrs Lyon and Mrs Eastwood need to know how many students they will be planning for.

Next Monday, September 12th, there are school photos. Please ensure your child is wearing the correct winter uniform on this day If you wanted a family photo, this form should have been returned to Alyssa by last Friday.

Have a great week.

Study Ladder

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
The class has now been registered to work on Study Ladder.  This is a great website that will help to reinforce what is being taught in the classroom.  Your child can access tasks in maths and literacy. Each child will have a user name and password and these will be pasted into their homework books for easy reference.  We hope you enjoy helping your child to work on these tasks.
